Final Reflection:
Throughout the semester a set of assignments and essays were developed. Essays helped me a lot to correct my mistakes and improve my writing. I learned many new things and developed new skills. Now I know more clearly what I have to focus on and I look for the best way to do a good job. In the “Writing for Engineers” class I did 3 essays; Egg Description, Distant Waves, Brooklyn Bridge, and a Lab Report. I also made a letter. Many of these essays I found very good because I did a good job. Some were easier than others but thanks to the feedback I was able to get better grades. I will explain how I felt completing each of these topics and everything that has to do with them.
The first class assignment was “Egg Description”. This was a mostly check trial. That is to say, to see how well we are in writing and if we have to improve or advance our lesson. For me this essay was easy, at first I couldn’t find what to focus on specifically but it turned out to be a satisfactory topic. I really knew how to break down the topic without any worries and despite being the first I felt very good about the results. I had no problems writing more than a few words. Honestly, completing the essay was easy, it didn’t take me a lot of time to do it and I was able to have a good fluency with the topic. More than anything it was like an investigation and developed with details. At the time of completing my task, I knew that it would not hurt me badly because, despite the fact that it finished quickly, I dedicated time to it. In the end, I was happy with the results but I always want the best so I did the “Feedback” and I was able to get the grade I wanted. The “Feedback” was one of the things I loved the most about the class because it helped me improve and correct mistakes. This made me better and better and I was able to raise my grades even more.
The second assignment was “Distant Waves”. This essay caught my attention and I also wanted to have the obligation to obtain a good grade because it was a book written by Prof. Weyn. Being her book, I wanted to develop the topic well and give good statements on the topic. It was also very interesting because it dealt with our subject and what we want to be in the future. As is engineering. I really liked this essay, if it cost me a little at first to talk. But I read the text several times until I managed to give a good development of the subject. My grammar was not perfect, I had several errors but I gave good reasoning. But thanks to the “Feedback” I can fix the failures and move forward with a better essay. Sometimes I ran out of explanations because I found that the text that we had to do the essay did not provide enough information to break down each part. Although in the end I knew how to manage and continued to spend a lot of time on the parts that I still did not understand. Another of the things that I always had as my main objective in class and in all my assignments was to deliver the work on time. I was always fully focused to do a good job, devoting time and dedication to the things I did to never turn anything in late. I like to be responsible; It is so much that if on one occasion I arrive to deliver something late I feel bad. But thank God that these themes were to my liking and I was able to get the best out of them.
The third Assignment was “Brooklyn Bridge”. This essay was my favorite because I was very interested in the subject. I also had no problems developing it. I was able to get everything I expected from my effort in this essay. I grasped the subject very quickly and wrote safely, I tried to do my best and put into practice everything I learned in class. Which helped me a lot because the essay turned out to be as expected. I was able to learn new “citations” which I could put into practice in this essay and everything flowed naturally. I honestly liked this essay a lot and I learned a lot from it. For me it was not difficult, I wanted the satisfaction of knowing more about the subject and its history. As is the issue of the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. It is a very good subject in which you learn a lot, I was able to learn many new things that I did not know and I kept many of them because it was very interesting.
The fourth assignment was “Persuasive letter”. This assignment cost me work to do. Because I didn’t really know how to start working on it. He wasn’t even sure what he was doing. Although thanks to the help of my classmates I was able to connect more with the subject. When there was group work they gave me their opinions and I was able to obtain more information on how to express myself. This was very valuable to me because I already had a source to focus on. I can tell that it was a bit stressful because I didn’t really know what to do even though I tried to dig deeper until I got to the point of feeling better. I didn’t expect it to go so well but it was the opposite. Sometimes one thinks otherwise. Also thanks to the “Feedback” you can improve the parts which I needed to add and remove to improve my letter properly.
Finally, the final theme of the class was to make a “Lab Report”. This was the most difficult and stressful assignment of all for me. It was a topic in which I was looking for a way to understand but I couldn’t and I didn’t want to do it wrong. This assignment was the one that cost me the most because I had to do things that I hadn’t done yet and I wasn’t aware of everything. All the explanations were provided but there were so many I didn’t know what to do and I got even more confused. I asked my colleagues for help and saw some of their projects and they helped me get a better idea of how to do my Lab Report. I also spoke with Prof. Weyn so that she explained more in-depth the details of how to do what I needed. In the end, I was able to do a good job thanks to my performance and my concern to obtain good grades. My goal was always to get a good grade and pass the class with an A. In the end, I was very satisfied with what I had done.
Finally, I really liked the class and its assignments. I learned to do things better and take everything seriously. This class was one more to move forward and complete our goal. The class really helped me a lot with my grammar and knowing how to express myself more openly. It was all a learning process that I appreciate a lot and I will have good expectations.
